FastGun Long Range and Short Range describe the turnbuckle's working reach—not your truck's bed length. TorkLift lists Original FastGun Long Range at 25–43 inches and Short Range, also called FastGun .45, at 14.5–21.5 inches. Range alone does not confirm compatibility.
This guide compares the standard Original FastGun families below. Other FastGun configurations can have different specifications; always check the exact part number and current manufacturer instructions.
Long Range vs Short Range at a glance
| Original FastGun family | Listed reach | Manufacturer's general application | Polished example |
|---|---|---|---|
| Long Range | 25–43 inches | TorkLift TRUE Frame-Mounted tie downs | S9526, pair |
| Short Range / .45 | 14.5–21.5 inches | Appropriate bed-mounted connection positions | S9527, pair |
These are product-family descriptions, not an approval for your vehicle, camper anchors, or installed tie-down geometry. A long-bed truck does not automatically require Long Range, and a short-bed truck does not automatically require Short Range.
Why bed-mounted systems need extra attention
Do not translate “bed-mounted” into “four Short Range turnbuckles.” TorkLift's FAQ describes bed-mounted arrangements using Short Range at the front and Long Range at the rear. The actual system and anchor layout still need manufacturer confirmation.
If you have a flatbed, nonstandard anchors, a mixed-brand system, or an existing setup with different front and rear connectors, ask TorkLift about the exact arrangement (opens in a new tab). Do not extend a turnbuckle beyond its listed range or improvise a connection to make an unsuitable model reach.
A useful checklist before choosing a range
- Identify the installed tie-down system. Record the bracket part numbers and whether each connection is frame-mounted, bed-mounted, or another arrangement.
- Identify each camper connection. Give TorkLift the camper model, anchor information, and any nonstandard equipment. Ask what measurements or photos they require.
- Confirm front and rear requirements. Do not use a single distance or a product photo as approval for all four corners.
- Confirm the complete part number. Verify range and application before choosing a finish.
- Check quantity. Count individual turnbuckles, not just packages labeled “set.”
TorkLift's official Fit Finder (opens in a new tab) is the starting point for truck-side tie-down bracket applications. Do not treat a bracket result as a separate approval of turnbuckle reach or camper-anchor compatibility.
Measure the actual connection at all four corners
Identify the camper's upper anchor and the selected hole in the truck tie-down plate. TorkLift's FastGun installation example (opens in a new tab) uses these two locations when aligning the connection. The sketch below is a location key for a range enquiry.
A: Camper anchor
B: Truck tie-down hole
With the camper positioned and the tie downs installed according to their instructions, record each connection separately. Use the exact part instructions for the measurement method; ask TorkLift which reference points to use if they are unclear. Send the distances, bracket numbers, camper-anchor details, and photos for review.
| Corner | Connection distance, in inches | Photo and confirmed model |
|---|---|---|
| Left front | Record separately | Add photo and TorkLift's answer |
| Right front | Record separately | Add photo and TorkLift's answer |
| Left rear | Record separately | Add photo and TorkLift's answer |
| Right rear | Record separately | Add photo and TorkLift's answer |
Compare the measurements with the listed reach as a starting point for that review. A distance inside a published range does not by itself confirm the model, hook engagement, or clearance. Final length adjustment and spring tension follow the selected part's instructions.
What both versions have in common
Original FastGuns use spring loading, a quick-disconnect handle, and tension indicators. Both still require setup according to the current instructions. The handle makes routine connection and disconnection convenient; it does not remove the need to inspect or recheck the system.
If you are choosing between operating styles rather than lengths, read FastGun vs traditional turnbuckles. If the component names are unfamiliar, start with tie downs vs turnbuckles.
Count turnbuckles, then count packages
| Package | Individual turnbuckles | What that quantity means |
|---|---|---|
| Original Long Range pair, such as S9526 | 2 | Two connections; two matching pairs supply four |
| Original Short Range / .45 pair, such as S9527 | 2 | Two connections requiring that confirmed model |
| Our Original Long Range 4-Pack | 4 | Two original manufacturer pairs of the same part number and finish |
For four manufacturer-confirmed Long Range connections, count either two Long Range pairs or one matching store 4-Pack. If TorkLift confirms two Short Range and two Long Range connections instead, the count is one appropriate pair of each. A four-piece Long Range package does not supply a mixed-range arrangement.
Our 4-Pack is a store quantity bundle, not a new TorkLift manufacturer part number. Truck-mounted brackets and optional locks remain separate. For a dated example comparing the same quantities and finish, see the complete setup cost breakdown.
Frequently asked questions
Does FastGun .45 mean 45 inches?
No. It is the Short Range model designation. TorkLift's table lists a 14.5–21.5-inch reach for that family.
Can I order by finish alone?
No. Similar finishes appear in different ranges. Check the exact part number, range, and manufacturer-confirmed application first.
Does a pair supply four turnbuckles?
No. An Original FastGun pair supplies two. Plan the required quantities and ranges for all four connection positions before ordering.
