Running boards do not automatically rule out TorkLift camper tie downs. Compatible applications exist, but the board type, its length, and the truck's complete configuration need to match the manufacturer's requirements. Start with TorkLift's official Fit Finder (opens in a new tab) before choosing front and rear part numbers.
For an outboard frame-mounted system, record the equipment on the truck you will actually use. A recommendation made before adding side steps or changing other equipment needs another look.
Identify the running boards you have
TorkLift's running-board identification sheet (PDF; opens in a new tab) distinguishes cab-length boards that finish beneath the cab from full-length boards that extend beneath the bed. Board movement is a separate detail: fixed boards and electric retractable boards can appear as different choices in Fit Finder.
| Detail | What to record |
|---|---|
| Movement | Fixed, electric retractable, or no boards |
| Length | Where the board ends: beneath the cab or extending beneath the bed |
| Identity | Factory equipment or aftermarket brand and model |
| Other steps | Separate bed-access steps and other equipment near the proposed mounting area |
For aftermarket equipment, include the board manufacturer's part number if available. A photo of the visible step alone may leave out its mounting brackets, so ask TorkLift which views or measurements they need.
Why the truck model alone is not enough
For example, TorkLift's F2020/F2020A product page (opens in a new tab) identifies fixed, non-electric running boards in its listed Ford F-150 Super Crew application. That detail illustrates why two owners saying “I have an F-150 with steps” have not supplied a complete configuration. It does not select a kit for every F-150.
TorkLift explains that running-board brackets and other frame-mounted equipment can occupy areas needed by outboard tie downs. If you change that equipment after selecting or installing tie downs, ask TorkLift to review the updated configuration (opens in a new tab).
For the specific F2020 part discussed above, our F2020 front-pair product page shows the store listing and package details. Check the manufacturer-confirmed configuration before choosing this application example.
Prepare these details for the manufacturer
- Truck: year, make, model, and cab style, using the choices shown in Fit Finder.
- Bed: the actual bed length; avoid relying only on “short bed” or “long bed.”
- Configuration: drivetrain, engine, and single or dual rear wheels where the application asks for them.
- Boards and steps: the details in the table above, including any aftermarket changes.
- Rear hitch: factory receiver or the aftermarket manufacturer and model.
- Existing parts: exact front and rear tie-down numbers if you already own them.
- Unclear details: photographs or measurements requested by TorkLift, plus the specific question you need answered.
Save the result for both ends of the truck. If an accessory is not represented by the available choices, resolve it with the manufacturer before substituting the nearest-looking option.

A question you can send to TorkLift
My truck is [year, make, model, cab, bed length, and relevant configuration]. It has [factory or aftermarket board brand/model], which are [fixed or electric] and end [beneath the cab or beneath the bed]. The rear hitch is [manufacturer/model]. I also have [bed steps or other relevant equipment]. Please confirm the exact front and rear tie-down part numbers for this configuration and tell me which photos, measurements, or accessory changes you need to review.
Keep the reply with your parts list so you can compare complete part numbers when ordering.
Review the whole order
A front bracket pair does not supply the rear pair. For the typical TorkLift outboard arrangement, check the confirmed front pair, rear pair, and four appropriate spring-loaded turnbuckles. Read each listing's package contents; a bracket bundle does not automatically include turnbuckles.
Use our tie downs vs turnbuckles explanation to separate the components, then the buying checklist to compare complete purchase totals. Follow the exact kits' installation instructions for required hardware and clearance checks.
Common questions before ordering
Do cab-length boards always clear camper tie downs?
Cab length describes where the board ends. It does not confirm the exact brackets, board design, or truck application. Match the complete configuration through TorkLift.
Can electric boards be treated as fixed boards?
Use the category that describes the installed equipment. Fit Finder distinguishes electric and fixed boards for some applications; a similar appearance is not a reason to switch categories.
Should I remove or modify my boards to make a kit fit?
Have TorkLift identify the applicable kit and instructions first. Any required removal or alteration must follow those exact application instructions. Resolve the plan before ordering parts around a proposed modification.
Browse after confirming the part numbers
Browse Ford F-150 tie downs, Ram 2500/3500 tie downs, or Shop by Vehicle for other truck families. These collections organize listings; use the manufacturer's confirmed part numbers to choose the actual products.
